FLECS – Infrastructure and defence
One new and exciting area for these super dynamic lightweight cables is in Infrastructure and defence. They can be very quickly and cheaply deployed on land and at sea. As well as providing power by using the fibre optic cable and laser monitoring systems the cables can pick up movement of vessels, marine creatures and humans as well as wave and tidal movement.
One example that clearly demonstrates this was while deploying a cable on a sandy beach the cable sensing equipment could pick up then individual footsteps of a jogger 800m away.
At <70mm and 5 kg per meter these cables are extremely cost efficient and fast and easy to deloy on land and sea
The cables can provide emergency energy when main cables are damaged or destroyed, both on land and sea.
These cables can be quickly recovered and redeployed where next needed
They can be used for temporary military encampments, for example for rapid military deployments of troops and ships on shore: For emergency aid centres after hurricanes and other disasters affecting communities and areas; Anywhere that requires fast quick cables and connections.
The cables can provide both power and communication.
The cables can supply steady and reliable electricity to remote settlements
